3 Ready-Made Breads to Add to Your Table

La Farm Bakery: A Fusion of French Style with Fresh Ingredients

In our Supplier Stories series, we’re featuring our wonderful suppliers! So many of them have special stories, from women entrepreneurs to family farms to mission-driven folks who want to make a difference. Some are local — only available in a couple of stores or states — while others are growing along with us. Follow along as we share their tales.

Since 1999, La Farm Bakery has blended centuries-old French baking techniques with new world tastes and locally sourced grains. The result: artisan bread that’s sold the day it’s made.

If you live in North Carolina, perhaps you’ve already tasted the mighty flavors of that old-world/new-world fusion — La Farm’s fresh-baked bread is sold in five Whole Foods Market stores in the Raleigh-Durham area: Cary (where the bakery’s flagship café is also located), Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh and North Raleigh.

And now, with the opening of Whole Foods Market’s new West Cary store on November 7, customers can enjoy an in-store La Farm café featuring a European hearth with a full selection of breads throughout the day, coffee service and a café menu.

If you’re lucky enough to live in the area, plan to add delicious, oven-fresh breads to your Thanksgiving table. (Not near a La Farm Bakery? Your local Whole Foods Market bakery has plenty of other options to choose from.)

1. Sourdough Bread

La Farm Bakery’s signature light sourdough is a must for a Thanksgiving weekend — whether warm in your bread basket, toasted with butter for breakfast, cubed for stuffing or sliced for leftover Thanksgiving sandwiches. This slow fermented loaf is reminiscent of the traditional, versatile bread served throughout France for centuries.

2. Yeast Rolls

La Farm bakers use a delicious buttermilk recipe and brush their rolls with butter as soon as they emerge hot from the oven. They purposely lightly bake the rolls so that you can reheat them in your oven just before eating. (Pop in the oven for 5 minutes to warm before serving.) They also make perfect little “slider” turkey sandwiches with leftover turkey and cranberry sauce.

3. Pumpkin Challah

This rich challah makes a beautiful hostess gift, plus amazing French toast and bread pudding the next morning!

Lionel Vatinet, owner of La Farm Bakery, put it simply: “Our bread is crispy, chewy… It’s pure love.”
