Supplier Story: Changing Seas Smoked Salmon

Party-Perfect Appetizers for Any Gathering

In our Supplier Stories series, we’re featuring our wonderful suppliers! So many of them have special stories, from women entrepreneurs to family farms to mission-driven folks who want to make a difference. Some are local — only available in a couple of stores or states — while others are growing along with us. Follow along as we share their tales.

When doling out a piece of Changing Seas’ savory smoked salmon onto your appetizer plate or bagel, you might not realize that those very fish were tended to by a Nordic family whose rich fishing traditions are as timeless as the seas themselves.

Raised in pure Arctic waters in Kvarøy (a tiny island off the coast of central Norway with a population of about 65), the products from Changing Seas’ smoked salmon line offers taste mixed with story — all while helping preserve our oceans’ ecosystems and keeping the world’s fish stock thriving.

The third-generation family business behind the Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett (fishery) is just one example of the partnerships Changing Seas’ parent company, Blue Circle Foods, forms with farmers who share their passion for high-quality fish with respect for oceanic ecosystems.

But it’s what happens after harvest that truly makes this holiday favorite a party winner: The salmon is seasoned and smoked using specially crafted smoking methods — and after being salted and seasoned, it’s then gently cured under controlled humidity and temperature conditions.

A slow cold-smoked process (82°F) over a fire of locally sourced beechwood helps finish it out with a delicate flavor and texture. After that, it’s ready to enjoy as a party appetizer or paired with goat cheese and bagels for the best breakfast spread ever.

As an exclusive product line at Whole Foods Market, you can only find Changing Seas’ delicious line of smoked salmon in our U.S. stores. Find a store near you to stock up on this savory treat for your next holiday gathering.
